EQ Rail Transportation Solutions

EQ – The Environmental Quality Company has the unique ability to manage large volume waste projects via rail throughout the United States. EQ has rail transfer facilities with the capability to handle hazardous, TSCA and non-hazardous waste streams. Transportation via rail is a cost effective and sustainable solution offered by EQ.

Using rail is the most efficient way to transport large volumes to the largest waste treatment facilities in the United States (Michigan Disposal and EQ Detroit) as well as the only RCRA/TSCA landfill in the Midwest (Wayne Disposal). EQ’s rail transfer facilities can manage gondolas, tankers and intermodal containers. EQ processes large volumes of waste by unloading containers efficiently with the ability to hold even larger volumes on adjacent track. EQ also owns a private fleet of more than 300 gondola railcars.

EQ’s rail transfer facility in Romulus, MI can process 1,000 – 1,900 tons per day. Railcars are processed through a transfer building that has a steel platform which straddles the railcar. An excavator on the platform excavates the solids from the railcar and transfers into 50-ton tandem highway dump trucks. The trucks then proceed to an EQ site, or other location for appropriate treatment and/or final disposal.

The EQ Detroit waste treatment facility is directly rail served, with both solid and liquid wastes unloaded directly to treatment tanks at the site, processing up to 600 tons per day. The waste is treated as necessary and ultimately disposed.

EQ also manages a rail transfer operation adjacent to the Detroit facility. Non-hazardous waste or other material can be transferred from rail to truck with an excavator placed on a concrete pad adjacent to the rail line. For large projects, two miles of track are available to hold cars prior to unloading.

EQ is committed to minimizing the environmental impacts of our services and operations through the application of sustainability principles. Using rail when shipping waste from a customer location or project to a waste handling facility is a sustainable way to transport waste. Moving waste by rail is three times more fuel-efficient than moving waste on the highway. Trains can move a ton of waste more than 436 miles on a single gallon of fuel. Efficient use of fuel means less greenhouse gas emissions.
